The files remain local object URLs and are released when you reset the page. HEIC still previews depend on native browser decoding or the lazily loaded local fallback, so support is tested at runtime rather than assumed from the filename.
A correct pair is more than two files with the same base name. The viewer classifies still and video signatures, reads available Apple content identifiers, and blocks a known mismatch. When identifiers are absent, it can present a manual pair with an explicit warning rather than falsely claiming that the resources are confirmed partners.

Why was my file rejected even though the extension looks correct?
The contents may be empty, corrupt, too large, or a different format that was renamed. Re-export the original file from its source app and try again.
