About this jxl viewer
A .jxl file may not display natively in every current browser. This viewer supplies its own local decoder, draws a safe raster preview, and reports details such as dimensions, alpha, bit depth, color information, and whether animation metadata is present.
The preview is not an image upload and it does not execute embedded content. For animated files, the page identifies animation but may show only the first composited frame; that distinction is reported beside the preview.
The viewer is meant for inspection, not silent conversion. It probes the codestream or container before allocating a preview, then separates what is known about the file from what the browser actually renders. File size, dimensions, color properties, alpha, and animation signals remain useful even when only the first frame can be drawn.

The page loads its own decoder only after selection, so it can create a bounded raster preview without relying on the browser's built-in image support.
Can the JXL viewer play an animated image?
It reports animation information when available, but this release may show only the first composited frame. It does not label that still preview as full animation playback.
Why was my file rejected even though the extension looks correct?
The contents may be empty, corrupt, too large, or a different format that was renamed. Re-export the original file from its source app and try again.
Does this work on phones?
Yes in current Chrome, Safari, Edge, and Firefox where the required browser or WebAssembly feature is available. Large jobs may complete more reliably on a device with more memory.
