JPEG XL can hold high-quality pixels, transparency, wide color, and even enough reconstruction data to restore an original JPEG. JPG is less advanced, but it remains the safest choice for older websites, office software, marketplace uploads, and services that reject .jxl files.
This converter decodes the JXL in a dedicated browser worker and creates an 8-bit JPG at the quality you choose. Transparent pixels must be flattened because JPG has no alpha channel; the interface makes that change explicit instead of silently claiming transparency was preserved.
Quality is applied only after the JXL frame has been decoded, so it does not change the source file or promise to reproduce an embedded JPEG bit for bit. Batch jobs are processed with bounded concurrency, and the result table uses each completed blob to calculate the real size difference before an individual or ZIP download is offered.

Does converting JXL to JPG restore an original JPEG exactly?
Not through the quality-based decode path. Exact JPEG reconstruction is a separate JPEG XL feature and is only possible when the source contains reconstruction data and the codec exposes that mode.
What happens to JXL transparency in the JPG?
JPG has no alpha channel. Transparent pixels are composited onto the background selected in the converter, and the comparison identifies the result as an opaque JPEG.
Why was my file rejected even though the extension looks correct?
The contents may be empty, corrupt, too large, or a different format that was renamed. Re-export the original file from its source app and try again.
Does this work on phones?
Yes in current Chrome, Safari, Edge, and Firefox where the required browser or WebAssembly feature is available. Large jobs may complete more reliably on a device with more memory.
