About this ultra hdr detector
The detector inspects JPEG segments and gain-map container relationships, not the visible brightness of the photo. Results distinguish a normal JPEG, recognized Ultra HDR evidence, and an incomplete structure that may have been damaged by an editor or metadata stripper.
HEIC and AVIF gain maps use different container rules. Those formats are reported as unsupported unless the current build has a verified compatible decoder; the tool does not convert a filename into a positive result.
Detection checks recognized XMP, MPF or container relationships, byte ranges, and the secondary image rather than searching for the letters HDR. Results distinguish complete evidence from an incomplete or damaged structure. HEIC can be selected for an honest capability response, but the page does not label it Ultra HDR until a validated HEIC gain-map parser is available.

Can a normal bright JPEG be mistaken for Ultra HDR?
Brightness is not used as proof. A positive result requires recognized metadata plus a valid relationship to actual gain-map image data.
What does an incomplete Ultra HDR result mean?
Some expected markers were found, but the offsets, secondary image, or metadata relationship did not validate. An editor may have removed or truncated part of the structure.
Why was my file rejected even though the extension looks correct?
The contents may be empty, corrupt, too large, or a different format that was renamed. Re-export the original file from its source app and try again.
Does this work on phones?
Yes in current Chrome, Safari, Edge, and Firefox where the required browser or WebAssembly feature is available. Large jobs may complete more reliably on a device with more memory.
