Ultra HDR JPEG combines an ordinary authored SDR base with a gain map and metadata that compatible renderers use for expanded output. These tools inspect that structure rather than judging brightness, and they distinguish a valid gain-map relationship from partial markers left behind by an editor or metadata operation.

Use the detector for a direct yes, no, incomplete, or unsupported result; use the viewer to compare file capability with browser-managed display; and create an SDR copy when compatibility matters. Removal keeps the existing SDR JPEG scan where the supported structure permits, avoiding an unnecessary lossy canvas re-encode.
